What’s In Season? : Fall Edition

This month, we’re celebrating the flavors of autumn! Eating with the seasons means that produce is always at its most flavorful and nutritious. Here at Gobble, we recognize the benefits of eating fresh, consciously-sourced ingredients, and you’ll notice that there are a lot of hearty harvest fruits and vegetables in our upcoming menus. Whether you are visiting your local farmer’s market or selecting your weekly Gobble recipes, here are some of our favorite seasonal offerings:

Butternut Squash

Full of micro and macro nutrients, while relatively low in calories, butternut squash is an incredible versatile ingredient that enhances both savory and sweet dishes. Its brilliant color points to the fact that it is packed with carotenoids, which act as antioxidants for us humans. It can also help form Vitamin A, which supports eye, bone, and cell health, plus helps with our immunity. Offering up magnesium, Vitamins B and E, and a whole bunch of other health benefits, you might want to take advantage of this delicious squash while you can.

Get a taste of butternut squash in these two delicious upcoming Gobble recipes: Truffled Casareccia Pasta with Mushrooms & Roasted Butternut Squash, and Butternut Squash Ravioli with Swiss Chard & Pecan Sage Brown Butter.

Apple

Did you know that there are over 7,500 varieties of apples? These delicious, juicy fruits are incredibly nutritious, offering fiber, Vitamins C, B, and K, and magnesium – just to name a few benefits. Apparently the age-old saying, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away,” is pretty factual! Not only do apples help to preserve the amount of acetylcholine in the brain, helping with memory and concentration, but they also promote good bacteria in your gut thanks to fiber and prebiotics. We love that apples are delicious on their own, as well as being extremely adaptable from baking to mashing, or even drinking!

Enjoy the wonders of apples in our upcoming Roasted Chicken with Yukon Gold Potatoes and Sautéed Autumn Apples, and Brown Sugar Pork Tenderloin with Cheddar Grits & Apple Braised Greens. Meat not your thing? Try our Spinach Salad with Apples, Figs, and Goat Cheese!

Rutabaga

More common in Northern Europe, rutabagas are cousins of the turnip. Although they might not draw in attention with their looks, they definitely deserve a spotlight in the nutrition department. These root vegetables offer potassium and calcium, along with other vitamins and minerals. A good source of potassium is vital for sodium regulation, and therefore the maintenance of healthy blood pressure and muscle functioning. Rutabagas can be mashed, roasted, turned into soup, or even enjoyed thinly sliced into salads!

Keep your eye out for our Pumpkin Gnocchi with Apples & Rutabaga. Bonus points for enjoying butternut squash, pumpkin, apple, rutabaga, and brussel sprouts all in one sitting – this recipe is a nutritional jackpot!

Cranberries

These ruby-colored fruit gems aren’t just perfect for ringing in the Fall and holiday seasons! Cranberries are full of antioxidants, which means they play a critical role in lowering inflammatory responses. Plus, they are packed with Vitamin C to help boost immunity and work towards disease prevention. To add a little color and pizzaz into your diet, sprinkle them atop salads or pair them with nuts and chocolate!

You can find festive cranberries in our Pan-Roasted Salmon with Date Syrup-Glazed Rainbow Carrots with Dried Cranberries & Walnuts, as well as in our Pan-Seared Duck Breast with Persian Jeweled Rice & Delicata Squash Premium Dinner Kit.

From pumpkins to persimmons, there’s a ton of other produce that experience the peak of their season during these Fall months.
